Wonders at executing a
concept, the duo that are palmer//harding do it again; wowing us yesterday with
a collection inspired by paper.
Yes, simply those little sheets
that fill our Fashion Week diaries....diaries that by now are inevitably scrawled
with show times and endless lists of autumn/winter wardrobe must haves.
Matthew & Levi have successfully
managed interpret a potentially complex idea. They maintained the simple and
clean fragility that has become their image, however stunned with an unexpected
injection of bold colour and bright neon’s mixed among very intricate detailing.
Shirts, in the clean paper
white poplin from Cotton USA, left backstage perfectly complete with a beautiful
Sheaffer pen and custom paper clip fastenings. The audience were left captivated
by a range of mesmerising new shapes and textures created through elaborate textile
manipulation. Not only did these intrigue, but they complement the entire collection
which again appears to go against our fixed ideas on aesthetic fit and form.
The concept was translated
and implemented with masterful precision as Central Saint Martins’ platform theatre
was transformed into a paper maze. Ginormous paper streams hung from floor to
ceiling and piles of A4 sheets lay strewn across the floor as models wove amongst
the crowd on scattered seating around the catwalk itself.
Apart from a near quick-change
disaster, everyone (models and team included) appeared to be having a great
time, but that is not surprise when working with palmer//harding.
Thanks again Matthew &
Levi...hope to see you next season!
