Bright Young Things 2013

For those of you that have walked past selfridges recently, you may have noticed new window installations taken over, once again, by the Bright Young Things. Every year Selfridges selects a small group of specially chosen designers, considered to be "the Uk's most exciting rising stars", to feature their collection not only in the iconic window displays, but in The Concept Store. It never fails to amaze me just how many of oxford streets pavement pounders are drawn in by those oversized windows, stopping in their tracts to eyeball each perfectly executed concept. The exposure they are getting is that golden opportunity that everyone is searching for, nd for this lucky bunch, it could lead to anything from future shows, collections, sposorship and more...

You are mistaken if you think they are all about fashion, they have been hand picked from across the board, from fashion and jewellery, to animation and food. The Concept Store is home to all the products/collections created by the featured designers, so you have to pop in.

Customer interest was only increased when Selfridges decided to also dedicated it's calendar to the Bright Young Things 2013. Events are running throughout the month till October 10th, with everything from digital techniques on lurex, marbel painting, a hat party, confectionary goodies and much more. Too bad all of this is happening during Fashion Month, I just managed to catch the end of Sarah Williams' workshop, of Williams British Handmade, teaching the art of leather box covering.

If you can peel your eyes away from the catwalk, get yourselfs down there. It seems the Class of 2013 has topped them all, so it's worth a look...

Libery's does LFW

The excitments mounts as we are only four days away from London Fashion Week!

My first day as a Christopher Raeburn Intern had me on my feet for 12 hours straight (Literally!), and while the tasks didn't exactly require much brain power it was still a lot of fun; meeting new people and experiencing work in a fashion label. Next was my Apple appointment, and I definately needed cheering up after this, so I ventured down to Liberty for some window gazing.

To celebrate the opening of London Fashion Week 2013 on Friday 13th, Liberty London has launched a series of new window installations.

These brilliant and beautifully creative displays feature the Autumn/Winter ranges of British fashion designers including the likes of Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.

I'm loving bold red borders and contrasting urban grey background, it just makes the clothes 'pop'.

Savy Shopper - East End Thrift Shop

Yesterday I ventured down to Brick Lane and decided to find The East End Thrift shop, I’ve heard so much about....I’m glad I did!

Well hidden at the end of a small delivery passage and dressed in concrete, it doesn’t exactly scream ‘in-fashion’, I suppose it lets the vintage do the talking! The East End Thrift Store acts as a warehouse for all things vintage that don’t quite cut it for concessions, but don’t let that fool you, they are plenty of well hidden, well priced gems in the endless rails of ‘stuff’.

The store is sectioned into two, the bigger of the two holding the ‘jumble’ items where their ‘fill-a-bag’ rule apply. You basically get a bag for £10 and fill it with as much as you can. The smaller half has single priced items, new or in better condition, or a more valuable (but not expensive)....head up, you’ll find the head turning pieces here!! Not personally my taste but they have some amazing things you probably won’t find anywhere else for that price!

Gifted Graduate

Sometimes, someone somewhere creates something so beautifully amazing that it not only takes your breath away, but it consumes all your thoughts with the sense of wonder and exitement....

For me this usually happens at fashion week or graduate shows when a designer pulls a out collecion that no one expected, and it happened to me when knitwear graduate, Yuki Hagino's releaved her BA Final collection back in May!

It may have been because origami always leaves me in awe, or just because I love the simplicity of minimalism, but Yuki Hagino's collection is definitely something special and has recently been named as 'one to watch', and for good reason.

Originally starting off as an architecture student in Japan, she ended her education in fashion, drawn to CSM for the degree of freedom it offered. It had much limited restrictions in comparison to architecture, allowing her to be able to find herself as both a designer and an artist.

She begun with white cotton, column dresses, sculpting them with intricately folded stiff vinyl material and embellished with knit. Through this she has achieved excitement and intrigue between the contrast of the soft innocence of cotton with the harsh rigidity of plastic. Love it! Not only has this insipired me, but it also come with the realisation that I need to buckle down and get some work done.
