Winter Skin

Winter is coming. Wait, sorry, winter skin is coming. You know it when you feel it, that slightly flaky, taut, and mildly (and sometimes very) uncomfortable state of skin. Your poor hands and face are trying the best that they can. And they could probably use some help.

I found that people with oily skin unfortunately shy away from oil based products. I say unfortunately because its all about balance. I am constantly trying new products, but its important to adapt your skincare to your environment. While protection is my main focus all year round, summer skincare is light, whereas winter skincare is all about layering. Remember, lightest products first like gels and serums and heaviest last like cream moisturisers and oil.

6 top tips for that winter glow //

  1. Water Intake // This can be a hard one when your on the run, but with cold winds and drying radiator heat parching your skin its so important to hydrate from within
  2. Turn up the Cold Tap // Luke warm water is the way when it comes to face washing, as is a non-stripping cleanser like Vitamin C Super Facialist.
  3. Moisturise // Layer up on the moisturisers to lock in that goodness during the day with SPF for protection. Facial oil's work best at night and applying moisturisers to damp skin will maximise absorption
  4. Exfoliate! // I personally like a strong exfoliator (partly cause my skin can take it), the microdermabrasion scrub from Body shop of the Botanics Scrub is a dream! For those with sensitive skin, chemical exfoliation is best so head to Pixi and grab yourself some glow tonic.
  5. Humidify //As mentioned in point 1, there's nothing like radiators to totally parch your skin! Stick a bowl of water above the radiator to keep moisture levels up.
  6. Pamper time // If you notice your skin needing extra moisture, grab a hydrating sheet mask. These are all the range at the moment so you'll have no problems finding them.

You can thank me later ;)

Autumnal Accents

Leather Skirt - Zara // Trainers - Puma Suede // Jacker - Forever21 // Top - Asos

Now I understand what is meant by an Indian summer! London is somewhat tropical despite us moving ever closer into the autumn to winter! It’s a fine balance between the cooler mornings and evening, to the daytimes so much so that I'm at either end of the temperature extreme. That’s leads me onto the happy excuse to make it out late and in early to curl up on the sofa to avoid just that.
In actual fact, I found that while some garments like a mini skirt, are typically designed for warmer days dependent on the fabrics and feel it can be totally versatile! When I bought this leather skirt I'd anticipated that it soon wouldn’t get much wear. Being leather and suede lined, that’s quite the opposite ands its made the perfect transition piece. I am however, so much looking forward to the days where I can cozy on down in jumpers and sweatpants, ready for Christmas!*

The Sari Side

Deep rooted, but rarely shared its a long time coming on the blog. Im finally sharing my ‘Indian’ side! There are going to be reems of British Asian ladies out there that know all too well that balancing the endless family events and the never-ending birthdays for your masses of cousins never came easy but when it comes to the big occasions theres only one go to! The glitz and ultimate glamour of Indian attire thats been collected (and passed down) over the years. While the collection is small, sari’s are my steady go-to choices for Indian events, which unfortunately, are happening less and less in my life.

I’m not shy about the fact that I LOVE wearing saris and Indian clothing and want to take advantage of every opportunity I get to wear something. Don’t get me wrong my comforts of jeans, t-shirts and dresses, are very much at the core of my style, but there is something rather extraordinary about the feeling of getting dressed up for an Indian event. It feels like ultimate femininity and chicness and I love the fact that women of all ages can pull one off and look amazing whilst they do it.

Getting married next year I have decided to go full whack and were embracing the full Indian shebang! My friends are also so excited to fully embrace and get involved in wearing Indian attire which is the best feeling in the world!
I set my eyes on this beauty for my cousins wedding and I thought there was no better time than right now to share my ‘other side’. I absolutely love how simplistic and beautiful it is with it’s lace crop from misguided.

I’m currently in the process of researching loads of Indian designers to plan my outfits and make up looks for the big day (days in my case) ahead. I can’t wait to bring more of this side of me to my blog, Pinterest, Instagram and Instastories. Our trip to India and a close family wedding has got me in the mood for planning so if anyone has any great recommendations for shopping or anything else I would love to hear it all.

Side note, how amazing would a sari be for a bride generally if you were wearing white?

Image vs Narrative

You may be reading from behind that screen thinking that a thoughtless stream of words fall off my tongue and fill the page each and every week.
Think again!

Writing is one of the hardest shoes I fill on this blog and quite often I find myself wishing the photos themselves, would generate the thousand words they are truly worth.

A battle between image and narrative. The struggle to think up what to write is just the beginning. Translating my somewhat scrambled, million-miles-a minute brain into a compelling and semi-understandable post is a whole other feat in itself!

With the majority of what you say being communicated in tone, volume and personality, I do often wonder if come across quite the same, to you, on the other side of the screen?

Hmm guess I'm just going to have to keep wondering for now... until the next time ;)

The Power of Plants!

Out of the window, I can see the leaves slowly turning.
Whilst we start to treat ourselves to the cosy outerwear but forget to treat the parts we leave exposed. The skin on your face is resilient but doesn't mean it doesn't need looking after as we submerge into the embrace of autumn.

Theres no affect on the skin like the environment as the elements change and whirl into a different kind of hard to that presented by the glaring sun. Well its time to fight nature with nature, theres nothing better to protect your skin than the power of plants and the botanics range offers just that!

Clear the Mind!

Much like it says on the tin* the second biggest factor on your skin is closely followed by stress and emotion, so right after you massage in that facial balm or slather on the lotion, take some time to refresh and hibernate when you need it most. all things positive in habit and process is a winner for mental health and well being. Beauty products and potions are one thing, but a beautiful mind will shine out of you like rays of light. We've all met those girls who appear to get more and more beautiful the longer you speak to them and that is because they have a beautiful mind and thoughts. I'm planning to be doing a lot more yoga and meditation this season, hopefully first thing in the mornings to really get my head in a positive mindset. I want to ensure every day starts in the best way possible!

Freedom

Dress // Primark

A beautiful dress will always support that perfect feeling of freedom to fit seamlessly in with whatever you may have planned, whilst it also holds the passport to manoeuvre into several occasions. Weekends are mostly spent travelling (at varying speeds) travelling for work and play, jump between shopping crowds and prancing through green spaces before the hayfever has a chance to grab hold. Therefore, as I identify as predominantly being as practical as I am irrational when it comes to dressing, I highly value a dress that doesn’t restrict my movement, but preferably enhances it. I found this liberating and airy dream of a dress, and I can only say, that this dress knows how to move.

Postcards from Eastbourne

I noticed just last night how the nights are getting that little bit darker ever so slightly earlier day by day. Blessed with so many more hours of light, its easy to underestimate its magical effects. Like the weather, we'll soon be transitioning into our sombre autumn wardrobe. Until then I'm reluctant to let go and will be making the most of what sunshine we have left. These sunny Eastbourne snaps sum it up nicely!

There'll be no dull and dark colours found here, not for a little while yet.

Floral Wrap Dress

What’s your summer staple? Though I definitely have a few, lately it’s been all about a pretty floral dress! What makes it so special is the fact that it’s a timeless classic which never truly goes out of style, and somehow looks equally relevant from year to year, but also the fact that you can always count on a pretty floral frock to take you from day to night and everything in between.

Normally when choosing a floral dress the first thing I look at is print. Lately, I have been venturing into a slightly bolder territory as far as prints are concerned. When choosing a timeless classic, I would usually go for something more versatile, avoiding the too bold, too bright, or too loud. This however was an exception as the orange came-a-callin’. I wear this dress with sandals and boots alike and its one that will never wash out my darker skin tone come the brighter months!

But what about you guys? What is your perfect summer dress?
