2017 in Outfits

WOW. Hasn’t it been an incredible year indeed!
As we fast approach the penultimate day, I pause and reflect on the last 52 weeks in outfits because there’s no better way to do it in one post! - Check the Look Of The Day tags for more....
Back to Black //
Another year, another staple.
Feeling lazy and need to run, it’s a go-to look and in my case that means all black. You can grab practically anything black in your wardrobe and its pretty much guaranteed to go. Not only that, all black numbers provide a classy and classic appeal suited to every occasion.

Colour Injection //
As I vowed last year, I’ve injected a little fun into the street and rail wardrobe in the form of colour. This years I’ve definitely enjoyed experimenting with a little colour which happened to come into play as the temperatures rise. Mixing up brighter tones with my existing wardrobe.

Sheer Delight //
Playing with transparency is terribly fun. It can be layered for added effect or worn alone for it’s daring and sexy appeal, I went for the latter in nearly every look. This one works well for festivals, beaches or evening looks when you can get away with being a bit playful and flirtatious - It’s never too late!

Pastels //
Much like embroidery, powder pink and baby blue seem to be flavour of the month. And it’s only clothes that seem to be coated in these shades but everything else too…

In the Detail //
Ever year there’s always something. A big hype, a fashion favourite and seasonal trend that seems to dominate the year. Embroidery seems to have been the statement detail that everyone’s been after and Street & Rail’s no exception. Floral embroidery has a beautiful feminine charm and elegant finish. It gives every day garments that added detail and finished look.

For me this year marks one of change as I embark on a whole new adventure, both in my personal and professional life come January. As exciting as it is, like most I am still nervous for what the change might bring. Nothing else to do but embrace it with open arms and see what 2018 holds for me!

Sending endless thanks for taking the time to join me this year! You are all eternally valued and always awesome. I can't wait for another year of looks and plenty of fun with you all. Remember to revisit soon ;)

Love Always,

Party Season Skin Saviour

Party Season

After a long night of tequila-soaked amusement, it's all too easy to fall sideways into the arms of your duvet with a full face of make up, (who knows, too much fun and your probably fast asleep, yet fully clothed with the light on)! You're a rare bird indeed if you've reached nearly-30 and *haven't* done this before.

Turns out that makeup removal is key. One step in your nighty beauty regime you definitely don’t want to skip. It’s impacts can lead to break-outs, premature ageing and dull looking complexion.
No matter how heavy my eyelids are feeling, I’m pretty hardcore when it comes to taking all my makeup off. I typically reach for a cleansing oil and toner at the minimum, but thats not to say its complicated! My evening regime gives me a few sweet moments of silence.... the perfect reason to take a timeout before bed.
I use Una Breanan’s Vitamin C Cleansing Oil from Superfacialist. Oil attracts oil, so a cleansing oil's help attract the makeup and impurities on your skin, lifting them off. As an emulsifying oil, this turns to a milk when you wash it off your face making this a nourishing product without an overly greasy feel (Don't worry, this product is safe even if you have oily skin like me). Not only is it great but it smells divine and makes application a real treat. Follow with a few drops of your favourite toner or micellar and swipe gently across the surface of your skin to remove any residue or missed make up.
Once you’re done, apply a moisturiser to help lock in hydration and keep your skin happy.
Trust me: Your complexion will thank you!

Festive Fever

Jumper - New Look // Jeans - Topshop // Jacket - Forever 21

Whilst your mind is probably currently wrapped up in last minute gift hunting, thermal clothing and executing the perfect plan to consume the maximum amount of food and drink humanly possible on Christmas day, this time of year always echoes a funny mix between a minor manic state and unashamed boredom. This year we’ve even been treated to a blanket of snow so I have brave freezing winds as I fight the crowds down every highstreet or department store, and the super power heaters that smother you as you make your way in, dashing in and out as fast as possible to make it painless.

Finding the balance is key: Knee ripped jeans provide a bit of ventilation and agility for such an event. Paired with a high neck knit and light jacket means no need to juggle scarfs and heavy costs. Such an outfit also allows you to disguise the many thermal layers, possibly an extra layer or two under the knit.
December has got a whole lot more exciting since I have a whole new family to count as my own.

Happy Shopping,

Ticking By

I like to think I run a tight ship. Being late and missing deadlines irks me like no other. That being said I’ve found it increasingly difficult to track down all of the hours of the day… where do they go!?
I don’t know if it’s just me or part of growing older but this year in particular seems to have flown by far faster than any other. Working a 9-5 and managing the blog on the side, whilst still finding time for friends and a social-life has its challenges. The game of catch-up is a tricky one, as I’m sure you are sometimes aware!

That's one of the magical qualities of photos they freeze time, helping to capture small moments - in this case outfits - that can later be shared. I love the contrast skirts offer in the winter. There's a fine balance between the top and bottom of an outfit like this, but paired with a modest warm or chunky knit it has an easy feminine appeal without meaning you have to freeze. Accessories help to add a little accent to simple ensembles like this one, and who said practicality had to be boring! The golden strap and timeless face of this beautiful Cluse watch acts as some serious arm candy and goes perfectly with some of my favourite bangles.

The perfect accessory to keep count of the hours ;)

SASS

Strutting down Palais Royal with a little Sass!
Slogan tee's are on the increase and I think they look great! I’ve been dressing down a lot lately and so it seems, is everyone else!  I decided to take full advantage of this all black jeans and jacket ensemble to don this cute ASOS tee. It was too fun to resist not buying.

As if the outfit wasn't enough without the tee, it was on with the knee high boots for a spin around Parisian passages. I purchased these on a whim from M&S last winter and these beauties are by far the most comfortable boots I have owned - Must have fall footwear if ever there was any!
Given we did an entire day of walking I would rethink the heels no matter what the height but luckily Prince Charming was on hand to piggy back me back home ;)

Excuse me while I go and enjoy the crisp autumn leaves!

Tartan - Coat // Blazer // Shirt // Trousers

Why not tartan?
This is one that vastly depends on the colours, but I adore deep tartans at this time of year. (this may be because it subconsciously means cosy!). Some years ago I purchased this on the off chance from ASOS but it wasn’t till I saw it in reality that I actually fell in love. The plum and navy shades, semi-towel texture and boxy crop cut! Adore it all. A piece like this can makes layering a little difficult, but provide a little more relief when you start to overheat breezing in and out of store on th hunt for gifts!
Boxy cuts also add to the versatility – cosy warmer in winter, easy breezy tee come the spring/summer.

Happy Thursday,

Silken Threads

Culottes - ASOS // Top - Pieces

Styling a look, there's always that tiny spur of doubt as to whether you're getting it right or not. I've spent all too long trying to create a feeling or being what I thought I should look like rather than putting all doubts aside and just enjoying pieces for what they are.

Now although this outfit slightly contradicted itself with sheer silk culottes and a knitted jumper I still loved every minute prancing through the west-end on the hunt for the products to make up the perfect skincare routine. An undeniable cool factor in more ways than one with the single digit Celsius temperatures.
The classy black knitted pull paired against the silky blush colour of the culottes is the perfect contrast. No only does the colour provide the perfect accent, as does the floaty shapes the fabric creates.  However be warned. If you’re as prone to the cold as my knees are you may want to refresh your weather app before leaving the house.

Happy Thursday

Deserted

Playsuit - New Look
Similar - Topshop // ASOS // Bershka

A wondrous place of childhood imaginings. Rolling peaks and waves of tiny delicate grains of sand joint inherently to create a golden expanse sculpted by the mere movements of nature.
Almost hypnotising, the sky appeared as an ocean of blue above a sea of perfectly pleated silken folds. Panoramic views of dunes for miles only broken by an oasis and the snowy Andean peaks in the far distance. Falling, the sun illuminating the scene beneath from every angle slowly diluting the sky with puddles of red as it set.
Scorching heat slowing to a simmer began to invite the arrival of night.
Walking down hill to the oasis, my feet sinking into the searing sand I look one last look out my throat empty with a satisfying thirst.
A single step in time

A fount of solitude. Serene loneliness. Unity. Calming silence. Perfection.
A flawless landscape.

Impossible to describe the awe and charm created by such a harsh and desolate place. It is those footprints that later tell a story. I often forget how fortunate I am to have the freedom to travel wherever the heart desires. The ability to close the shutter, capturing those moment and feelings forever.

The least I could do to highlight such a landscape was an equally as beautiful ensemble. While my fingers run over the keyboard struggling to find the keys, the visuals takes over in an expression of unaccountable words….

One to get you over Hump Day!
