Comfy Couture

Time to put away your skyscraper heels and cross those red-soled Louboutins off the wish list in favour of a comfortable pair of flats.
Yes you heard me....Flats!

I love nothing more than a great pair of heels, but let's face it....stuck in sky high footwear, how much do you really expect to get done in a day?

Fashion is finally protecting our battered and bruised soles from the years of heeled abuse, in favour of comfortable and practical everyday footwear.
These are some of the SS14's best footwear so pay attention and enjoy....

Sunday Polish - Gradient Pink

Essie - Ballet Slippers
Essie - Mademoiselle
Essie - Need a Vacation

Something I have always wanted to try....and will now be wearing more often is gradient nails. I haven't quite perfected the art of gradient effect on each nail but this is a start.
It is soo easy and perfect from Spring....which finally seems to be here for us Londoners. It's still cold but atleast the suns out, so I'm not complaining.
I only have 30days to go till I'm in Malawi. Eeek can't believe it's coming round so fast!

Perfect for the a beautiful spring day here in London. A simple shirt and jeans, is simply effortless and surprisingly never fails to impress.

I have started to make my way through the long shopping list of things I will be needing for my 3 month volunteer trip to Malawi. Top of the list is cool loose shirts and maxi skirts.....perfect for spring so you can look forward to lots more posts.

Sunday Polish - Sole Mate

Essie - Sole Mate

In the mood for a dark polish this week, so I went for Essie Sole Mate. From the bottle I wasn't quite sure how this would turn out. Most dark colours appear almost black, however Sole Mate, no matter what the lighting conditions, is always obviously a rich deep plum with red undertones....and for that reason it has taken Luxedo's title as "Go-to-dark-polish"!

I am absolutely in Love(!) with this colour, and is perfect when you're looking for something a little more alluring.
With the consistency appearing a little thin, I initially thought that I would need three coats, but after two it was polish perfection.
Also being naturally glossy, I didn't need a top coat and it proved to be pretty long lasting with only barely noticeable tip-wear after five days.

SOS Lip Saviour - Dr. Lipp's Nipple Balm for Lips

Dr. Lipp's nipple balm for lips hasrecieved rave reviews recently and i was lucky enough to get my hands on one during LFW.  After this myself, I won't be going back to the average vaseline or carmex.
This products was actually first dicovered by midwives for new mothers suffering from sore nipples after breastfeeding, but due to its ultra hydrating, healing properties, it didn’t take long to earn itself a name as the ultimate multipurpose balm within the make-up industry.

One thing I love about Dr. Lipp’s nipple balm is that it is 100% natural, paraben, colour and flavour free, so it really couldn’t be any better for you.
It is made from medical grade lanolin which has been identified as the closest thing to our body’s own natural oils, and is clinically proven to reduce skin roughness and repair dry, cracked, flaky skin by upto 40% within 1 hour. It does this by rebuilding the lipid bilayers that make up the skins protective barrier, sealing in any moisture and protecting against the elements.

The balm is also surprisingly versatile, and can be used on anything and everything from dry, sensitive skin, elbows, cracked heels, eczema, dry cuticles, sunburn, split ends and even for nappy rash. It’s cosmetic uses include lip balm, creating glossy finishes for eyelids and cheekbones, primer, neatening eyebrows and moisturising eyelashes.

During the winter months I tend to suffer dry skin, especially my lip, usually finding myself endlessly applying lip balms. I was pleasantly surprised after noticing a real difference after the using Dr. Lipp for the very first time. I am also making a conscious effort to use more organic, chemical free products this year, and generally be healthier so this definitely goes down on my list.
With a thick, rich, long lasting formula, this really does prove to be super moisturising, and provides instant and effective relief. Original nipple balm for lips glides on easily, leaving lips glossy and although thick and a little sticky, it isn’t uncomfortable to wear like many others. Not only that, as a lover of matte lipsticks, soft smooth lips are must and this also acts as the great base when applied ten minutes earlier.

It is a little pricey at £11.50 at SpaceNK, but I imagine it willl last a fair while and its definitely does an excellent job.
The versatility and effectiveness of Dr. Lipp’s original nipple balm for lips has just earned its place as handbag essential!

Sunday Polish: "Missed a bit" in Midnight

Essie Midnight Cami

On one of the rare occasion that strangers in London actually communicate, it seems as though it was just to point out that " [I've] missed  a bit". It wasn't till I realised they were talking about my nails that we shared a laugh after I'd explained it was actually done on purpose.

Last weeks French manicure left me feeling very feminine for this week so I've gone for a confident, quirky nail in the hopes that this too would rub off.
Like that in a french manicure, I wanted to leave some of the natural nail using a more modern twist and it seems to have worked.

My nails are completely random, painted in a diagonal streak leaving different amounts of each nail bare. Not only is it lots of fun but also looks great
I did this free hand using the nail varnish brush, but it you find this difficult use a small paint brush to mark out the lines and fill any small sections.

Kisses,

Tan xx

P.S Base coat is Essential with this colours, otherwise prepare for the Nightmare(!!!) that is removing it!

It's Official! I'm Off . . .

So Excited my Face hurts.....
I am extremely delighted to tell everyone that earlier this week I found out that I have been accepted onto Lattitude's ICS Volunteer Programme.
This morning I signed my Volunteer Agreement so its final!

Towards the end of April, with your help, I will be flying off with a small group to Sangilo, Malawi as part of a three month Volunteer Programme with Latitude ICS.
Based in a small village 3 hours north of Mzuzu, the project is focused on developing the access and quality of pre-school and primary education for young children, as well as the range of activities available.
As well as teaching support, being a small, rural village it is also likely that some construction work will be required to create more toilets and wash facilities for what currently only has basic amenities. Yes....this means there are no western toilets or showers, and no electricity!

Latitude’s Sangilo project is part of a development charity that is working to deliver the International Citizens Service (ICS). ICS aims to bring people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is most needed. To enable them to be able to make an impact in these developing countries by introducing these positive changes, I am going to raise £800 and need your help!!!
I have big things planned over the coming months and hopefully you’ll all be getting involved along the way, so follow my new blog "Miles & Smiles in Malawi" for more updates.....
In the mean time don’t forget to donate on my Just Giving page.

Going in Green

I seem to have a small obsession with pencil skirts, so it was no surprise that this was the first thing I reached out for when it came round to meeting the girls.
I've always been a bit hesitant about green. It is a colour that you can't afford to get wrong, because when you do you risk potentially looking like....well vomit (depending on the shade of course)!
I played it safe with forest green this time, and teamed with a basic tee and pumps. Perfect for a casual dinner and catch up over cocktails and Mexican.

Hope you are well.
