Glittle Polish

Recovering from a week of torture after damaging a ligament and having a wisdom tooth removed, I've gone for something understated and elegant in a neutral french pink, with touch of sparkle to make me feel better.

To get the glitter just into the corners of the nails takes a bit of time and quite a few coats of polish, so to finish I used a coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

Sorry, I don't have the name of my glitter polish but it is very similar to OPI's Which is Witch? form the Disney's Oz the Great and Powerful collection.

My New Do!

As of last Monday, I am now sporting a much shorter hair cut.

I visited Radio Hair Salon in Shoreditch, for what I thought was to be a style and blow dry, then a glowing review.

I ended up being talked into a trim, only I would never have agreed, knowing how much they would end up taking off.

I have gone from 23 inches to just 16, and their reaction seemed to be nothing more than.....

"Oh well, it's done now, nothing we can do!"

Although this came as quite a shock, I was mostly disappointed! I had been planning a big cut in December, to which I was going to donate any money raised, as well as my hair, to the Little Princess Trust.

Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their hair to cancer.

Thanks to Radio Hair Salon, and their Scissor Happy staff I am now unable to do this, but it doesn't look too bad so time to embrace my newer shorter do....and who knows, I may even go shorter if it's for a good cause!

Sunday Polish - Psychedelic Marbling

This weeks nails are 70's inspired in the hope that they will last till Saturday for a 70's themed birthday.

If you want to try this, I should warn you before hand that this takes a lot of time achieve and is very messy...but the end result is definitely worth it!

I started with a white base (Essie - Blanc) so that the colour were more vivid. Being very impatient, I also missed the last step which is why mine look a bit crazy :/...I will probably try again next week or when I have more time.

This technique is called water marbling.

You add alternate drops of nail polish into the centre of a bowl of water until you have about three rings of each colour, or enough to cover the nail surface.

Using a toothpick, drag the outside colours towards the centre, (this creates the swirly pattern), stopping when your happy..

Carefully dip your finger, nail facing down, into the section of pattern you want.

Keep your finger submerged in the bowl of water and use a cotton bud to remove the left over polish in the water. If you remove your finger without doing this you will get a double layer of pattern.

Your finger will be covered in polish so be prepared for the clean up. Alternatively you can cover the skin around the nail in Vaseline, oil, or tape to prevent this (I used tape).

Louise Gray AW13

Shuttling around the city last week, in my usual hectic manner, I spent the majority of my time caught in ill-timed rain showers and people traffic.

After catching a glimpse of a woman weaving through the crowd in her Louboutin Pigalles and DIY plastic bag hat during Wednesdays rush hour, it seems I wasn't the only one.

This reminded me of Louise Gray's last collection which featured bin bag hats created by Stephen Jones. Amidts the tasteful good sense of the many catwalks we've seen, this AW13 show was some what of a refreshing change, with its whisk earrings, toilet-roll brooch, and dresses patched together with tinfoil. She has previously commented that she's "into recycling. It's a nice concept", which seems to have been a huge part of her inspiration for the aw13 collection.

With insanity as the theme, Louise Gray definitely did her all to embody this paining together unusual garments and clashy pattern. Loud and proud, not a collection for the faint hearted but hats off to her, if not a little crazy, it surely was a great one.

She injects that well needed sense of fun back into fashion....isn't that what this is all about?! However do not mistake fun for easy, if not it makes things all the more harder, and the incredible handiwork that has gone into creating each look speaks for itself.

Sunday Polish: Check Mate

After a tough week, I needed something fun and colourful to brighten up the week ahead.

In-your-face red checker board nails will do the trick.

One of my favourite Essie reds, really red, gives perfect coverage in two coats, unlike their white polish, Blanc, which needs 3-4. Start by painting a naughts and crosses board onto your nails using a nail art pen or fine brush, the simply fill in every other white square.

This gives quick and easy nails for those forever in a rush, like me, and don't they look great ;)

Sunday Polish: Triple Triangle

Spangles Nail Art Pen - Black & Gold

Left inspired by the print I'd seen on a strangers shirt on my travels earlier in the week, I decided to try and replicate this on my nails.

It's a shame I couldn't get a picture of the shirt to show you guys, because I think it came out quite well.

This is much easier to do than it looks, even for those that don't usually attempt nail art.

First start by painting each half of your nails in your chosen colours. If your doing the same as me, you would paint half the little nail pink, and the other half gold, half the ring finger grey and the other half pink...an so on.

When this layer dries, using a nail art pen or fine brush, paint a line drown the middle of the nail starting from the centre running to the end of the nail.

Then paint two lines outwards to create a triangle...a bit like drawing the the peace sign.

When this dries fill the triangle with the last of the three colours and finish with a layer of top coat for a longer lasting finish.

Essen-Shawl Outerwear

I've been meaning to check in all week and have just found the time to squeeze in a quick post...

Autumn/Winter are for sure my favourite seasons for fashion because you can play around with it so much, and it also allows you to experiment with layering which is never a bad thing!

My new must have for winter is a shawl. Not only is it lovely and warm in the cold winter months, but it can be thrown over nearly any look for a that added sophistication. Worn two ways, across the body or open, it is quick, smart and gives always has that effortless appeal.
